NICU is the NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit located at Woman's Hosptial in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Over 40% of all births
are premature causing the newborn to have a stay there. 25% of the newborns will never make it outside the hospital walls.
For a family who has a newborn baby in NICU, it is hard on them emotionally and financially. The gas back and forth to
the hospital, the stay if you live out of town, and then if the baby does not make it the burial and funeral costs. Plus the
emotional costs.
Londyn was born at 34 weeks and was fortunate to only have to say one week. Others are not so fortunate. That is why
we would like to take a portion of each entry fee to donate to the NICU for families who can not afford gas, food, or stay
at the hospital. We also make donations of new preemie clothing and blankets. This portion would also help the hospital
buy clothing for the preemies. A nurse once remarked to us that the babies do not have much clothing to wear because the parents
can not afford it and the babies have to wear the scratchy hospital clothing. That is why we want to make a donation to the
WH NICU.
No one understands truly until they experience it themselves.
